Course Overview
In this course, learners will be brought through on the necessary theoretical aspects that involve getting to know more about the demographic and medical profiles of older adults, what are the safety considerations including legal and ethics issues. This will be followed by understanding and interpreting the various components before planning for activities. These components include resource requirements, understand how to motivate older adults, managing group behaviour and knowing what are good facilitation techniques.
With all the necessary knowledge being acquired, learners will then proceed to plan out a structured group activity using an Activity Plan.
The next stage is to conduct the activities using the Activity Plan developed. Learners will also know how to adjust facilitation technique based on groups’ needs. Learners will also be able to monitor the performance and made adjustments to activities when required.
- Identify the purpose and outcome of group therapy with reference to demographic and medical profiles of clients
- Identify safety measure, code of conduct and ethical guidelines in the planning of activities
- Select appropriate activities based on clients’ profile
- Develop rules for group behaviour to address group dynamics
- Demonstrate positive traits and group facilitation techniques to encourage participation
- Plan structured activity with prepared resources and instructions
- Conduct planned structures activities in a safe manner with established ground rules to adapt to the groups’ needs
- Monitor performance and provide follow-up activities for specific clients’ needs

Course Fees
The full course fee is $840.00 (before GST).
For learners working in eligible community care organisations (CCOs), the course fee subsidy is as follows:
