Sarina is a dedicated and loving caregiver who balances her time between work, providing for her family and her 83 year-old mother, Mdm Aminah.
Caring for Mdm Aminah became more demanding over the years with her emotional outbursts and hurtful words. The downward spiral started in 2014 when Mdm Aminah was diagnosed with early stage dementia. Additionally, Mdm Aminah was prone to falls, which resulted in a fractured femur, dislocated wrist and multiple head injuries. Mdm Aminah’s doctor recommended to source for a day care centre as staying alone at home was dangerous.
In September 2017, Mdm Aminah started day care at St Luke’s ElderCare (SLEC) Telok Blangah Centre and felt anxious going to an unfamiliar location and being cast aside. Her deepest fear was not being able to see her family again.
But a joyful return from her first day at the centre dispelled all fears as Mdm Aminah shared stories of interesting activities and the good friends she bonded with. She also shared how the staff lovingly eased her anxiousness and showered her with care.
Now the family experiences a peace of mind and their bond has also strengthened. Any time spent together is now filled recounting wonderful stories of friendship and activities.
