LifeLab™@SLEC

The LifeLab™@SLEC is an interactive learning facility aimed at engaging the younger generation in exploring the experience of ageing. Located within the SIM Global Education building, the facility is managed by the SLEC CommCare Academy.

At the LifeLab™@SLEC, visitors embark on a unique journey through different care settings and immersive experiences to discover what it means to “age well”. Centred on the theme “Discover the Grace of Ageing”, the learning experience provides visitors with firsthand insights into the physical and psychosocial aspects of ageing.

Visitors get to wear geriatric simulation suits and attempt activities of daily living, gaining a tangible sense of physical challenges faced by elders. They also explore technologies available that support graceful ageing, such as virtual reality tools, and delve into the emotional and social aspects of ageing—including feelings of loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.

It was recognised at the Singapore Good Design Awards 2024 in the Experience Design category—underscoring its pivotal role in using thoughtful design to foster awareness, understanding, and empathy towards elders.

Since the LifeLab™@SLEC opened in September 2023, it has welcomed youth, community partners, representatives of academic institutions, SLEC’s staff, and the general public, including caregivers and elders.
