Course Overview
This 2-full day course is designed, in line with DCCF Framework to provide learners with the basic knowledge and skills to improve well-being of persons living with dementia and their caregivers.
Course Objectives
- Describe what is dementia, signs and symptoms
- Understand how condition impacts persons living with dementia and their caregivers
- Apply Person Centred Care (PCC) approach
- Facilitate holistic activities to promote independence and abilities
- Understand common behaviours of concerns and learn strategies to address them
- Demonstrate effective communication techniques
- Recognise when a person with dementia experiences harm, abuse and neglect
- Identify self-care strategies to manage stress for self and caregivers in the caring journey of persons with dementia
Who Should Attend
This course is opened to all community care staff caring for persons with dementia and is suitable for:
- Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, Enrolled Nurse, Allied Health Professional, Doctor, Senior Management, Corporate Services Staff, Support Care Staff.

Mr Sundar Subramanian is a Senior Occupational therapist in St Luke’s ElderCare.
Sundar graduated with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from Saveetha College of Occupational Therapy. He has more than 17 years of working experiences as a practicing occupational therapist in ILTC sector in Singapore.
Associate Prof. Dr. Edward Poon Wing Hong
PhD (Monash), MSc Palliative Care (King’s College, UK), BHSN (Sydney), Adv Dip Nsg Neuroscience (Singapore), Infection Control Cert (Hong Kong), POLST Certified, End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) Trainer (USA/Singapore), SRN.
A/Prof Edward is a Chief Nurse in St Luke’s ElderCare.
The full course is $392.40 (including prevailing GST). Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents and 45% for work pass holders working in eligible community care organisations.
