Course Overview
Every individual is different, so are their care needs. Caregivers who may be new in providing care and support to the elderly person may feel overwhelmed. Join us in this training where caregivers will learn practical skills to deliver essential support to provide unique care needs for the elderly person.

Course Objectives

What you will learn :

  • Apply basic communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with the elderly person
  • Acquire knowledge on the benefits of mobility, exercises and the correct positioning to prevent pressure injury and skin breakdown of the elderly person
  • Gain knowledge and skills on biological, psychological and social changes in the elderly person to support the care
  • Learn the importance of Mental, Emotional and Spiritual well-being1 of the elderly person
  • Learn on personal care techniques such as maintaining a clean, comfortable, safe, and secured environment based on elderly person’s needs and preferences
  • Learn the correct positioning and transfer techniques without injuring yourself and the elderly person
  • Obtain knowledge on how to improve quality of life of elderly person through meaningful and purposeful activity engagement
  • Support elderly person to carry out activities of daily living
  • Understand the principles of hygiene and infection control

¹ Spiritual well-being is part of a person’s Holistic Health that is also made up of Physical, Mental and Emotion which are interconnected to achieve a greater awareness of one’s health and total well-being.

Who Should Attend

Caregivers who are interested to learn practical skills to provide day to day care and support to elderly person

Training Hours

2 x Half day : 10am to 3pm (with 1-hour lunch)
Total 8 hours

Our trainers possess the relevant qualifications and experience to develop and deliver the training courses in their domain areas. Most of them have attained Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) certification or is certified with WSQ Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education that qualifies them to design and develop a learner-centric and industry-specific training programme and competency-based assessment.

Ms Susan Sim
Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare

Susan was the Centre Manager at St Luke ElderCare’s Senior Care Centre for 15 years and has been a full-time trainer for more than eight years. She acquired the Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) training in 2015, and she conducts regular training for Caregivers, Volunteers, Staff and School Partners within the community.

Ms Jenny Lim
Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare

Jenny has vast experience managing Senior Care Centre since 2001. She is currently a Senior Trainer with St Luke’s ElderCare, and her area of expertise covers eldercare. For the past nine years, Jenny has conducted Caregiver training and completed the Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) training in 2015.

Mr Vincent Teng
Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare

Vincent has more than five years of experience as Centre Manager at St Luke’s EldeCare Senior Care Centre. Currently, as the Trainer with SLEC, Vincent conducts both eldercare and caregiver training. He has completed the Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) training in 2016.

Mr Atienza Sedfrey Del Moro (Tom)
Senior Physiotherapist, St Luke’s ElderCare

Tom Sedfrey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Philippines) in 2005. He has more than 10 years of working experiences as a practicing physiotherapist in ILTC sector in Singapore. His areas of interest include neurorehabilitation (Stroke & PD) and geriatric rehabilitation.

 

The full course is $174.40 (including GST).

Prevailing course fees subsidy after Caregivers Training Grant (CTG) is at $10* for eligible trainee who meets the eligibility criteria for CTG:

CARE RECIPIENT must fulfill both the following criteria:

  1. Singapore Citizen (SC) or Permanent Resident (PR); and
  2. 65 years old and above, or be certified to have a disability, or is currently receiving services from a Social Service Agency (SSA)

Care recipient to submit ONE of the following if he / she has a disability but is not certified by a Singapore Registered Doctor :

  • Doctor’s report/memo by a Singapore Registered Doctor
  • Functional Assessment Report
  • IDAPE¹ / Eldershield / Home Caregiving Grant approval letter

¹ IDAPE is Interim Disability Assistance Programme for the Elderly.

Caregiver must fulfill all the following criteria:

  1. Main caregiver of the care recipient;
  2. An immediate family member or a Foreign Domestic Worker looking after the care recipient
  3. Attends and completes any of the CTG-approved training course
  4. Attain 100% attendance at an approved course under CTG
