Course Overview

This course equips learners with the basic knowledge and skills to perform, compute and interpret Modified Barthel Index (MBI) and Functional Assessment Staging Tools (FAST). Learners will understand the purpose of conducting MBI and FAST and its relation to functioning abilities. Discussion on the importance and impact of conducting outcome measure in a valid and reliable manner will be done.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, the learner is able to:

Cognitive

  1. Understand MBI as a measure of performing activities of daily living and FAST as a measurement of the progression of Dementia
  2. Describe MBI in its 10 domains of functional activities, describe the 7 domains of functional ability
  3. Describe the different stages and sub-stages of FAST
  4. Interpret MBI in terms of the Client’s degree of independence
  5. Interpret FAST scoring in relation to the different stages of Dementia

Affective

  1. Understand the importance and impact of conducting outcome measure in a valid and reliable manner

Psychomotor

  1. Perform MBI and FAST assessment by observation and appropriate questioning
  2. Compute MBI and FAST score accurately

Senior Physiotherapist & Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare

Mr Tom Sedfrey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Philippines) in 2005. He has more than 10 years of working experiences as a practicing physiotherapist in ILTC sector in Singapore. His areas of interest include neurorehabilitation (Stroke & PD) and geriatric rehabilitation.

The full course is $174.40 (including prevailing GST). Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents and 45% for work pass holders working in eligible community care organisations.
